A New LORD OF THE RINGS Game in Development with Weta Workshop

A new Lord of the Rings video game is in development in partnership with Weta Workshop, the studio behind the visual creation of Middle Earth in Peter Jackson’s epic fantasy trilogy.

The news came from Private Division’s Twitter, the publisher behind titles including The Outer World, Hades, and OlliOlli World. They shared that it would be publishing "a new game set in the literary Middle-Earth universe of J.R.R Tolkein."

Weta Workshop established a game development studio in 2014, and last year it was revealed that their team was working on a game relating to a major IP, it seems like this new Lord of the Rings game is that project.

There’s not much information about the game Middle-Earth Enterprises, which controls the rights to the franchise, and has "licensed the literary works of the series, providing Weta Workshop with the broadest creative license to interpret the underlying lore of the books," rather than the films or any other form of adaptation.

It’s also revealed that "this title is early in development," and "expected" to launch in 2024.
