A New PREDATOR: BADLANDS Clip Confirms a Direct Connection to ALIEN

A new clip from Dan Trachtenberg’s upcoming film Predator: Badlands just dropped, and it looks like the movie is taking a major step toward linking the Predator and Alien universes in a big way.

While Trachtenberg insists there are “no xenomorphs” in his new film, this new footage tells a different story, one that directly connects Badlands to Alien and even echoes the plot of Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror classic.

The clip centers on Elle Fanning as Tessa, one of two characters she plays in the movie. The other is Thia, and both are synthetics created by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, the same shady mega-corporation that sent Ripley and the crew of the Nostromo to their doom in Alien, and the same one that’s been dabbling in bio-weapons and alien research across multiple entries in the Alien franchise.

In the clip, Tessa receives a transmission from the corporation’s AI interface MU/TH/UR, the same codename used in the Alien franchise, informing her that she’s failed to complete her mission.

Her task was acquire a bioweapon designated “XX0522.” What exactly that is remains a mystery. Could it be a xenomorph? Or perhaps another deadly creature we’ve glimpsed in the trailers? For now, it’s anyone’s guess.

What is clear, however, is that Weyland-Yutani is up to its old tricks again using synthetics to recover dangerous alien organisms. This is a direct throughline to the films in the franchise.

The connection deepens when you realize that Weyland-Yutani also knows about the Yautja species, better known to us as the Predators, and seems to be pitting Tessa against one of them.

Whether or not a xenomorph actually appears in Predator: Badlands, it’s obvious that Alien’s DNA runs through this movie. A Predator film that digs into the shady dealings of Weyland-Yutani and their obsession with alien lifeforms?

We’ll find out exactly how these two deadly worlds collide when Predator: Badlands hits theaters on November 7.
