A New THE BATMAN Spinoff Series Is Going Into Development
The Batman producer Dylan Clark has revealed that a new spinoff series for The Batman is being developed to expand the universe that Matt Reeves’ is building.
The news comes not long after it was announced that the Arkham Asylum spinoff was canceled. There was also a Gotham PD spinoff in development as well, but that was also scrapped.
The only spinoff we know for a fact is coming is The Penguin series, the events of which will lead into The Batman: Part Two.
Clark shared the information during an interview with Entertainment Weekly to promote The Penguin, saying: “There’s another television exploration we’re going to do.
“We’re looking at this entire world as it relates to who Batman is — the antagonists around them, all the crime that has to be navigated in the city — and trying to figure out where are the areas that are best to explore.”
He don’t offer any details on what this other spinoff project will entail, so it will be interesting to see what comes of it, and what characters in Gotham City they will continue to explore.
I imagine with The Penguin and The Batman: Part Two already coming, this next spinoff will be set after the events of The Batman: Part Two because of how early it is in development.
As for The Penguin, the story is set one week after the events of The Batman, the eight-episode limited series charts Oswald Cobblepot’s rise to power in Gotham’s criminal underworld following the death of mobster Carmine Falcone.
The series will introduce Falcone’s adult children, Sofia (Cristin Milioti) and Albert (Michael Zegen), as well as rival mob boss Salvator Maroni (Clancy Brown).
Rhenzy Feliz, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, James Madio, Scott Cohen, Theo Rossi, Carmen Ejogo, François Chau, David H. Holmes, Michael Kelly, Craig Walker, and Mark Strong also star in the upcoming DC series.
The Penguin is set to premiere on HBO on September 19, 2024.
