A Nikola Tesla Biopic Trilogy Is in Development
Pioneering electrical engineer and inventor Nikola Tesla is getting a three feature films that will tell his life story. This is the first time I think I’ve ever heard of a biopic trilogy being developed, but that’s what’s happening here!
The project is set up at Showdog Studio, and it’s being developed and co-written by Tim Eaton, a visual effects veteran who has worked on films such as Men in Black, Twister and Beowulf.
The films will be based on the 1996 biography Wizard: The Life and Times of Nikola Tesla and the 2021 biography Tesla: Wizard at War. It will also pull from various other research by the author of both works, Marc J. Seifer. The development team has received access to various other letters and artifacts from Tesla’s life to help in crafting the trilogy.
Showdog founder John Attard said in a statement: “We are proud to be working with Marc and Tim and believe they will be a strong vehicle through which we can explore how, in a world increasingly influenced by technology and its misuse, Tesla’s very human story about the burden of genius is a timely and cautionary tale we can learn from.
Executive producer Robert Harris added: “When people hear the word ‘Tesla’ today, there is a good chance that their first thought is of the automotive company of the same name. What isn’t evident is just how influential Nikola Tesla was in shaping the future and the cost it took from a man that was as complex as he was a genius. This is a human story about the sheer weight of greatness in a world that wishes to exploit it and there are so many stories to tell about an extraordinary figure whose career and life had so many twists and turns.”
If anyone deserves a full on feature film trilogy biopic, it’s Nikola Tesla. This guy’s story is absolutely incredible with the things he created, and also tragic as his life was also marked by financial difficulties and a reclusive lifestyle in his later years. He died on January 7, 1943, in New York City, largely unrecognized at the time for his contributions.
Nikola Tesla posthumously emerged as a symbol of scientific genius and innovation, with his legacy enduring in the numerous technologies and inventions that stemmed from his work.
