A Number of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Shows Are Being Developed By Hasbro's eOne
Some exciting news has been shared regarding the Dungeons & Dragons franchise involving a number of shows that are currently in development. There’s currently a film in production that’s being directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley and it stars Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez. But, we’ve got even more D&D entertainment coming.
In a recent interview with Deadline, eOne’s Michael Lombardo, the President of Global Television for Hasbro's entertainment division said that, "Our big focus right now is Dungeons & Dragons," and he went on to say:
"When I initially sat with Darren [Throop, eOne's CEO] and Steve [Bertram, eOne's President of Film and Television], knowing that Dungeons is part of the Hasbro portfolio was incredibly exciting to me. It's a world and part of that is, its challenges are wow, where do you start? We don't want it to just be one show so we are building out, developing out a multi-pronged approach for television, a number of scripted shows and unscripted, and we hope to be taking this out to the marketplace early next year."
That’s pretty cool! There are so many different kinds of stories to tell in the Dungeons & Dragons universe that it makes sense to develop multiple shows. There could seriously be an endless amount of shows that could be made telling all kinds of different stories in different settings and locations. Lombardo went on to say:
"I was not a Dungeons & Dragons kid, and maybe I'm too old for it, but the people that played it, they continue to play it, it's so meaningful. They're so passionate about it, and we have had numerous discussions and a lot of interesting filmmakers, it's just finding the right team that has legs, that feels fresh in this moment. We have a big movie that's in post right now that will come out first so, we're trying to also navigate the brand more holistically so that the movie feels not apart from but connected somehow to a bigger universe."
No one is too old to start playing D&D! That’s the wrong attitude to have about the whole thing! Hell, a couple of years ago my brothers and I got our mom and dad playing it for the first time and they seemed to have a lot of fun with it.
Regardless, it’s good to know that the producers are bringing in filmmakers that are super passionate about Dungeons & Dragons and it’ll be interesting to see what these shows being developed will end up being.
