People in Superman and Wonder Woman Costumes Spotted on the Set of THE BATMAN

A couple of interesting new photos have surfaced from the set of director Matt ReevesThe Batman. The crazy thing about the photos is that they feature people dressed up in Superman and Wonder Woman costumes!

The images were shared on Twitter, and the fact that we are clearly seeing people decked out as Superman and Wonder Woman opens up some questions about this new Batman universe that’s being created. I thought The Batman was a self-contained film, but this clearly suggests that maybe other DC superheroes exist in the world of The Batman.

One of the tweets says that the scene being shot is for a Halloween party and the costumes are cheap looking. But, even though this isn’t the real Superman or Wonder Woman, it proves that the characters do exist in the universe, otherwise, why would someone dress up like them? I guess we’ll learn more about the film the closer it gets to being released.

Reeves previously talked about how this version of Gotham City will be very different from previous adaptations saying:

"What should the fans expect to see from Gotham City in this film. Thank you. You're absolutely right: it's just as important as any of the Rogues Gallery. It's sort of like the nature of what this place is, and the history of it is critically important to our story and one of the things that I really wanted to do because it is the center of the story - especially the history of corruption in the city.”

“[That] was I wanted to present it in a way that was really fleshed out, I wanted it to feel like an American city you'd never been to. I mean other iterations... the Burton one had very, very, theatrical, beautiful sets - and Nolan had the version that he created in Batman Begins and that was... parts of Chicago and parts of Pittsburgh. And what we're trying to do is create a version of it that you haven't seen before.”

“So some of the locations that we've chosen... let's say there's like, we have like a Gotham square, so that's like Times Square right now, if we shot it in Times Square then you'd be like I guess Gotham is New York. But in our case, it's actually going to be Liverpool. And the idea is to go to Liverpool, where there's all the sort of the foundation of the Gothic architecture, and then add all of the more modern structures in through CG... Now that I've floated off course I've told you what it is... so that aspect of Gotham and realizing it has been for me, one of the great pleasures in getting to make the movie."

The Batman will tell a dark noir-style film that will lean into Batman in his detective mode. Reeves said that it’s going to tell a deep and psychological story. This will be a “year two” story for Batman that acknowledges his origin and how it’s still something that he’s “majorly struggling” with.

There will be a series of murders and crimes that start taking place in Gotham and as Batman investigates those things, they begin to reveal the darkness of Gotham City to him.

The film stars Robert Pattinson as The Dark Knight, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson. Gil Perez-Abraham (Orange is the New Black), Charlie Carver (Teen Wolf), and Max Carver have also been cast in undisclosed roles.

The Batman is now scheduled to hit theaters on March 4th, 2022.
