A Reboot of RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD in Development That "Will Expand on Existing World"

Dan O’Bannon’s classic 1985 movie The Return of the Living Dead was such a fun horror comedy, and when I was a kid, the 1988 sequel Return of the Living Dead II, was a film I used to watch over and over again. I loved that movie! It didn’t hurt that the star of the film, Marsha Dietlein, was my neighbor at the time. She used to babysit me and my brothers.

Anyway, Return of the Living Dead is getting the reboot treatment thanks to Living Dead Media, and it’s explained that the next installment in the Return of the Living Dead franchise will reboot rather than remake. The official website shares that the reboot will expand on the existing world.

“Our reboot of Return of the Living Dead will expand the existing world created by the original 5 films, while staying true to the R-rated, sci-fi, horror, dark comedy roots adored by fans of the cult classic around the world for the last 35 years.”

They also note: “We are excited to resurrect this storied franchise for current fans and new generations of zombie fans.” I guess if you’re going to reboot a franchise, building on an already existing world is the way to do it. Steve Wolsh (Muck, Kill Her Goats) is attached to direct the movie.

Are you a fan of the Return of the Living Dead franchise? What do you think about the fact that it’s being rebooted? Is there anything you’d like to see from it?
