A Signature Scene in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Was Inspired By FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF

We've heard time and time again that the classic 1980s teenage John Hughes films heavily inspired director Jon Watts when developing Spider-Man: Homecoming. The first trailer that was released for the film wonderfully teased that tone, but we've now learned that there's an entire sequence in the film that was inspired by one of the scenes from Hughes' film Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which is one of my favorites!

In a recent interview posted by Cinemablend, co-producer Eric Carroll teased the scene, saying that it will be on of the signature sequences in the film:

"They go through this great Ferris Bueller-inspired chase through this neighborhood, where these guys from the Shocker, they got in one good clock. Spider-Man was not expecting that. So they get a jump on him, they tear off, and Spider-Man gives chase. It's a lot of fun. He's running through people's backyards, he's encountering friendly dogs, things like that. We think it's going to be one of the signature sequences in the film."

I love that scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off and it sounds like the Spider-Man version of it that they came up with will be a ton of fun! I can't wait to see how this plays out in the film. It was made very clear by Carroll "that the movie is not shying away from the influences of classic high school films like Ferris Bueller's Day Off." I love that, and I'm excited to see some of the other 80s films that played a role in shaping the story for Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Oh yeah, and the photo above is a new image from the film thanks to LA Times. You can watch the scene described from Ferris Bueller's Day Off below:
