Lawrence Kasdan, the talented writer behind films such as The Empire Strikes BackRaiders of the Lost ArkReturn of the JediThe Force Awakens, and Solo, is developing a six-part documentary series that will focus on George Lucas and the revolutionary visual effects company he created, Industrial Light and Magic.

This fascinating bit of news was shared by composer James Newton Howard, who is a friend of Kasdan, on Score: The Podcast. He said that he recently completed scoring the documentary. The composer also shared that he might also be involved with the upcoming Disney+ sequel to LucasFilm's 1988 film Willow that is being developed by Jon Kasdan.

This is awesome! As a longtime fan of Lucas and the work that ILM has done over the years, I’m excited that we are going to get a docuseries that will take a dive into the world of Lucas and ILM. It’s sure to be filled with all kinds of fascinating details and insight that the fans will love and appreciate.

Lucas launched Industrial Light and Magic in 1975 with the mission of creating groundbreaking and innovative special effects for his iconic film Star Wars. After the movie was a huge success, Lucas, along with Douglas Trumbull and a team of students, artists, and engineers, expanded the company and started doing work for a variety of film projects that were being produced.

ILM continues to lead the charge on innovative VFX work for TV and film. The company was acquired by Disney when Lucasfilm, was purchased back in 2012.

There are no other details about the docuseries, and there’s currently no release date set. But, it will be cool to get an in-depth look at Lucas and the history of ILM. I imagine it will be coming to Disney+ but we’ll have to wait and see.
