A SUPER SMASH BROS. Movie Is Reportedly Being Pitched by Illumination
With The Super Mario Bros. Movie being such a huge success, fans have wondered what Nintendo's partnership with Illumination will bring next. A sequel to The Super Mario Bros. movie has not been announced, but a new report from reliable Hollywood scooper Daniel Richtman says that Illumination is preparing a pitch for a shared Nintendo cinematic universe that would lead up to a big Super Smash Bros movie.
The movie would be built up with various Nintendo movies in the same way that Marvel built up to Avengers. Super Smash Bros. will be the Avengers movie of the Nintendo Cinematic Universe. That could be a lot of fun! I liked The Super Mario Bros. Movie, so if they continue to pump out fun films, this could be a big success.
The big question is, how many characters would they bring together for the Super Smash Bros. movie? There were originally 12 playable characters in the first video game, which is probably the way to go. But, now there are 89 characters, so they could pretty much pull in whoever they want from those characters that Nintendo owns the rights to. Maybe they will attempt to mix things up though with co-owned characters.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie already featured a lot of playable characters from the Smash series, including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Yoshi, Piranha Plant, and Bowser. They could easily be joined by other Nintendo characters from franchises like Metroid, Star Fox, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, Splatoon, Pikmin, F-Zero, and Animal Crossing.
Would you be up for a big Super Smash Bros. movie?
