A Two-Part Animated Film Adaptation of BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN Confirmed
A couple of years ago, a report surfaced that DC Entertainment was developing a two-part animated film adaptation of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's Batman: The Long Halloween. Well, that was officially confirmed by actor Matt Bomer during IGN’s Superman: Man of Tomorrow panel that took place during DC FanDome.
This is one of my favorite Batman stories! It’s a story that I would have loved to see adapted as a live-action feature, but of course, I’ll take a two-part animated film! Hopefully, they stick to the story that the comic tells. The DC animated films are decent, but I want this one to be a top-notch adaptation in every way.
If you’re not familiar with the story for some reason, here’s a synopsis:
Christmas. St. Patrick’s Day. Easter. As the calendar’s days stack up, so do the bodies littered in the streets of Gotham City. A murderer is loose, killing only on holidays. The only man that can stop this fiend? The Dark Knight. In a mystery taking place during Batman’s early days of crime fighting, Batman: The Long Halloween is one of the greatest Dark Knight stories ever told.
Working with District Attorney Harvey Dent and Lieutenant James Gordon, Batman races against the calendar as he tries to discover who Holiday is before he claims his next victim each month. A mystery that has the reader continually guessing the identity of the killer, this story also ties into the events that transform Harvey Dent into Batman’s deadly enemy, Two-Face.“
It was previously reported that this will be a standalone project and will not connect to any of the previous DC animated films. It was also said that some of the voice cast included Troy Baker, Jensen Ackles, Naya Rivera, Titus Welliver, David Dastmalchian, Jim Pirri, Amy Landecker, Matthew Gray Gubler, Katee Sackhoff, and Fred Tatasciore.
Some of these voice actors have already been part of some of the other DC animated films that have been made and some have played different characters. For example, Baker has played Joker, Two-Face, and Batman. There’s no word on who any of the actors will be playing.
Part one of Batman: The Long Halloween will debut in the summer of 2021, with the second and final installment due out in the fall of next year.
