Aaron Sorkin Says He Has Ideas For New Episodes of THE WEST WING
Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing was an incredibly popular and successful TV drama when it was on the air in the early 2000s. Over the years, Sorkin has been asked about the possibility of bringing the show back, and now after a recent trip he took to the White House, it seems like it inspired some new ideas.
Aaron Sorkin and some cast members from The West Wing were recently at the actual White House as part of a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the series. During an interview with Variety, Sorkin was asked if he would ever consider bringing back the show.
Sorkin responded: “If I had an idea, sure. I didn’t think about it seriously, frankly, until today… We’ll see what happens when I wake up tomorrow. But, if you’re asking me now, this is how I feel.”
He went on to say: “I just got a couple of ideas for episodes just walking around the White House. Like, ‘why didn’t we ever do this? Why didn’t we ever do that?’”
I’d be curious to know what those ideas are, but he didn’t offer any hints at what they could be. But, one thing is for sure, the White House now, is not the same as it was 25 years ago, and seeing how things have changed in that time could be really interesting.
I’m a fan of The West Wing as I loved the writing and the characters on it. I’ve recently been rewatching it and it has me longing for the days when politicians seemed like they were competent, and regardless of what side you were on, you could have a respectful conversation and debate. Things have changed.
I have no idea if we’ll ever see The West Wing revived for a new era, so we’ll just have to wait and see if Sorkin takes the ideas that he has and puts them into action.
