ABC Has Ordered a New Vampire Series Called THE BRIDES From the Creator of CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA
ABC has ordered a new Dracula-inspired vampire series called The Brides that will tell the story of three lady vampires. ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke said that the historic character Dracula will appear in the series, but the show will focus on its namesake, the brides. The series is being written and created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who created Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Riverdale. Maggie Kelly, who previously worked with Aguirre-Sacasa on Riverdale, is on board to direct the pilot episode.
Here’s the synopsis for the series:
“The Brides, a sexy contemporary reimagining of Dracula, is a family drama with a trio of powerful female leads at its heart. With strong horror elements, The Brides is a vampire soap about empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their nontraditional family. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is set to write, with Maggie Kiley to direct. Aguirre-Sacasa will executive produce with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions and Kiley.”
This series was ordered by ABC back in 2015, but had been on the back burner until now. I think this could end up having a following, as it’s a genre many gravitate toward, but I think it will hinge on the story and actors they get to star. The crew has a pretty good track record for creating popular content though, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it became a hit.
