ABC Renews THE GOOD DOCTOR For Season 2

If you're a fan of ABC's The Good Doctor, you'll be happy to hear that the network has renewed it for a second season. I actually think the show is great and I was hoping it would get renewed. It's one of the better medical dramas that have been made and it has an interesting concept that revolves around a surgeon with autism. This is a role that Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel) plays perfectly.

Highmore stars as Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, who relocates from a quiet country life to join the prestigious St. Bonaventure hospital’s surgical unit. His only advocate, Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff), challenges the skepticism and prejudices of the hospital’s board and staff when he brings him in to join the team.

The series also stars Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chuku Modu, Beau Garrett, Hill Harper and Tamlyn Tomita. ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said this in a statement:

The Good Doctor’s message of inclusiveness resonates with our viewers and is a hallmark of what we aim to accomplish here at ABC. This series has quickly joined the zeitgeist and broken records in the competitive television landscape. We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Shaun Murphy will be back for another season.”

The show is based on a Korean medical drama and was created for American TV by David Shore, who is the showrunner on the series and an executive producer along with Daniel Dae Kim
