The first trailer has been released for director Takashi Miike’s upcoming fantasy adventure epic The Great Yokai War: Guardians. This is a sequel to his 2005 film and it looks absolutely insane in the best of ways!

Takashi Miike is the director of films such as Audition, 13 Assassins, Ichi The Killer, First Love and a ton of other films. This next film of his is going to be filled with all kinds of wacky awesomeness. You’ll see what I mean when you watch the trailer, because it packs a lot of that in there.

The story follows Kei Watanabe (Kokoro Terada), who is a 5th grade elementary school student. He has inherited the hunter's blood to hunt yokai, which are supernatural monsters. To save the world from being destroyed, Kei Watanabe challenges a war against the yokai.

The Great Yokai War: Guardians opens on August 13 in Japan and is awaiting a U.S. release.
