According To James Cameron TERMINATOR: DARK FATE Will Continue The Story of John Connor

When the trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate was released, a lot of fans were wondering where John Connor was at because he was nowhere to be seen. Well, during a recent interview with Flicks and the City (via JoBlo), producer James Cameron explained the film will indeed continue the story of John Connor, but as you’ll see they way he explains things is a little vague.

“I think the best way to think about Terminator: Dark Fate is to think about it as a direct sequel to Terminator 2, the third film in a series if you will. We’ll be continuing John’s story, with Sarah’s story, and the T-800 returns — a different T-800 with a very different role to play than what we’ve seen before.”

What I’m not sure about is if John will appear in the film or if his story will continue through his mom’s story. Will she give us an update on John and what he’s up to, or will he eventually join her in the fight? I don’t know! Cameron went on to reveal that the film will also be R-rated.

“I think, tonally, what makes this a direct sequel to T1 and T2 is as much about the tone as it is about the narrative: It’s R rated, it’s grim, it’s gritty, it’s fast, it’s intense, it’s very linear. The whole story takes place in 36 hours. It’s not this kind of grandiose, complex story. It’s just very focused on the characters, it’s very now, it’s very present and it’s just a fast white-knuckle ride.”

The movie is set years after the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Mackenzie Davis plays an enhanced cyborg from the future who travels back in time to hunt down another Terminator, played by Gabriel Luna. As you’ll see, he has the ability to split into two separate Terminator killing machines — a dark liquid metal version that looks human and an exoskeleton. We don’t know what Luna’s mission is as the Terminator, but we’ll find out soon enough.

Tim Miller is directing the film and he is joined by Linda Hamilton, who returns as Sarah Conner, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is back as the Terminator.

Terminator: Dark Fate hits theaters on November 1st, 2019.
