According To Kevin Feige BLADE Will Make His Way into The MCU Someday

Not a lot of people were familiar with the Marvel Comics character Blade before the movie was released in 1998. I love the character and I thought those Blade films were awesome. Wesley Snipes was perfect in the role of Blade as well. Not only was it one of the first modern day comic book films, it was also rated R, which as you know, is something movie studios are just starting to embrace.

It now looks like Blade will eventually make his way into the MCU. We already know that Marvel currently has the rights to the character, so they can pretty much do what they want with him at this point. They got the rights back to Blade around the same time that they got the rights back to Ghost Rider and The Punisher, and both those characters have been played within the TV realm of the MCU. One day it will be Blade's turn!

During a recent interview with JoBlo, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked if we would see Blade in a new Marvel project somewhere down the line and this was his reply:

"We think it would be cool. Someday. My tenure at Marvel started 17 years ago, and there were two things that sort of launched the modern era. One was X-Men, which was the first thing that people said, 'Oh, there's life here.' But a few years before that, there was Blade. A character nobody had heard of at all, had only appeared in a few issues of Tomb of Dracula or something, turned into a big franchise. That was always a great lesson for me, where you go, "It doesn't matter how well known the character is, it matters how cool the movie is." Which, many years later, would be the reason we do Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange. I think Blade is a legacy character now, and I think it would be fun to do something with him one day."

Yeah, we won't be seeing Blade in the MCU anytime soon, but at least we know that one day it could happen. It sounds like Feige wants to do something with him one day, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see when and how it all comes about.
