ACRANE Showrunner Once Again Explains Why The Series is Ending With Season 2 Saying It Would Be "Irresponsible"
It was recently reported that the two-season animated Acrane series cost over $250 million to produce, making it the most expensive animated series ever made.
We also learned that there were initially five seasons planned for the series, but due to the cost of producing the show it was cut down to two. But, showrunner and co-creator Christian Linke doesn’t bring any of that up when recently asked about the show in an interview with CinemaBlend.
Linke is sticking to the story that two seasons is what they’ve always planned and that they are just looking to avoid the series outstaying its welcome.
He said: "We always had a specific story in mind. Look, you could have stretched it, I'm sure. But for us, it was always just like we started with this in mind. I think there's also a personal angle to it as creatives.
“We've all seen the TV shows, where clearly the writers are running out of juice. How inspired can you stay about the same thing, for how long?
“It's been nine years for us, with these characters. I think there's a responsibility aspect to this, also, where we're like, this is what we had in mind."
He added: "This is the story that we had in our heads that we want to tell. It's irresponsible to stretch this to a point where it feels like we can't even really do it justice. I think that was a big part of it. We don't want to overdo it."
When asked about Season 2, Linke said: "I don't want to say too much about it. I mean, that’s the point. We definitely always wanted our world and stories to feel like they have consequences, and death is the most severe consequence. Yeah, that's part of our storytelling."
The first reactions to Arcane season 2 are very positive, though, with one person saying: "Arcane Season 2 Act 1 is truly EPIC. I shed many tears (happy & sad) throughout these 3 episodes.” Another added: "Arcane season 2 has commenced with exceptional promise, captivating audiences from the outset."
In the series, sisters Jinx (Ella Purnell) and Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) find themselves caught on opposing sides of a conflict in the utopian city of Piltover and its poor underbelly, Zaun.
In the cities of Piltover and Zaun, “tensions rise as inventors, hooligans, politicians, and crime lords grow increasingly dissatisfied with the constraints of a devastated society.
“With the situation on the verge of being unsustainable, two sisters steal an artifact of immeasurable power. Discovery and danger collide as heroes are born and bonds are broken. Will this power change the world? Or will it lead to ruin? This is the world of Arcane.
"Amidst the escalating unrest between the rich, utopian city of Piltover and its seedy, oppressed underbelly of Zaun, sisters Vi and Jinx find themselves on opposing sides of a brewing conflict over clashing convictions and arcane technologies."
Arcane Season 2 drops its first three episodes on November 9th, with the next three landing on November 16th, and the final three episodes on November 23rd.
