Action-Packed Trailer For the New Thriller MISS BALA with Gina Rodriguez

Gina Rodriguez, who is best known her role in Jane The Virgin is being built up to be the next big female action star. She recently had a role in the sci-fi thriller Annihilation, and now there’s Miss Bala. She takes on the lead role in the movie in which she plays a young woman who is forced to become a mole for the DEA in a drug cartel. As the story progresses she is forced to take the situation into her own hands when her family is threatened. Here’s the synopsis that was released:

Gloria (Gina Rodriguez) finds a power she never knew she had when she is drawn into a dangerous world of cross-border crime.  Surviving will require all of her cunning, inventiveness, and strength.

Miss Bala is actually based on a Mexican film of the same name, which was inspired by the true story of a former pageant queen who was arrested transporting military weapons with suspected gang members.

If the movie actually turns out to be good, Rodriguez’s career is probably going to blow up and we’ll see her cast in a bunch of action films that need a female badass.

The movie was directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Twilight) and it also stars Ismael Cruz Córdova, Matt Lauria, Ricardo Abarca, and Anthony Mackie. Miss Bala hits theaters on February 1st.

Plan every move. Play every side. Risk everything. Gina Rodriguez is #MissBala - in theaters February 1. Synopsis: Gloria (Gina Rodriguez) finds a power she never knew she had when she is drawn into a dangerous world of cross-border crime.
