Actor James Caan Passes Away at Age 82 and Hollywood Pays Tribute
Legendary actor James Caan passed away at the age of 82. The sad news was announced by his family saying: “It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.” There was no information given as to the cause of his death.
James Caan was a hell of a talented actor, and one of my all-time favorite roles of his was as Paul Sheldon in Rob Reiner’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Misery. He was freakin’ amazing in that film, and I think it’s one of his best performances.
Caan also starred in films such as The Godfather, Elf, The Gambler, Theif, and a lot of other movies. He found fame playing Chicago Bears halfback Brian Piccolo in the 1971 TV movie Brian’s Song.
This is a sad day, but he will be remembered for his incredible work as an actor. Condolences to his family and friends. Here are some of the reactions from Hollywood that being posted social media:
Director Francis Ford Coppola told Deadline: “Jimmy was someone who stretched through my life longer and closer than any motion picture figure I’ve ever known. From those earlier times working together on The Rain People, and throughout all the milestones of my life, his films and the many great roles he played will never be forgotten. He will always be my old friend from Sunnyside, my collaborator and one of the funniest people I’ve ever known.”
