Actor Ray Porter Opens Up About Playing Darkseid in Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE

Actor Ray Porter, known for his roles in Almost Famous, Argo, and Justified, has confirmed this week that he did indeed play the role of super-villain Darkseid in Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League before it was reworked by Joss Whedon and released in 2017. The actor had signed an NDA about his role, and although it was cut from the final version, he kept the highly-speculated secret until this week, when Snyder confirmed that his cut would in fact be released next year on HBO Max.

Now Porter has been set free, and he opened up about the week from his point of view in the LightCast podcast. When asked about the role, Porter stayed conservative, saying:

"There's stuff that I don't want to give away, because we get to see it now."

And when asked why he kept things quiet instead of confirming what fans felt they already knew, he said:

"I just stayed quiet about it because I didn't want to give anything away, and I had signed that [NDA], and I don't want to mess with Warner Bros. They've always been very nice to me, and I don't want to make them mad."

And even when it was leaked, he said:

“I was really worried that this would splash back on me somehow. And they've been super kind and really great. So yeah, I basically have been sitting on this for a really long time.”

When he was confronted straight up about his role, he didn’t realize what all had come out yet, so he freaked out a little:

"I got messages saying, 'Did you play Darkseid in Justice League?' I immediately went into panic mode and I shot off an email to Warner Bros. and I shot off an email to DC like, 'I didn't say anything. I didn't say anything. They were great, they were like, 'No, it's okay.' But I still wasn’t clear, and I didn't want to do anything that was inappropriate, I didn't want to muddy the waters. Also, at this point, there was no idea that this was gonna be a thing, that [the Snyder Cut] was going to come out."

He added:

“Afterwards, I texted Zack, and I said, 'Can I come out of the Darkseid closet now?' And he responded, 'Yes.’ I guess in a way it was kind of selfish for me to be able to finally say, 'Yes, I did this.' It was like, 'Oh, thank God, I can finally say this.' I didn't realize it would blow up as big as it did.”

He got to finally get it out there. He tweeted the confirmation, and was able to move past the secret-keeping. I’m sure that weighed heavily on him the past few years. And I’m sure he is happy to know that the role he played in the film will actually see the light of day!

Are you excited to check out Zack Snyder’s Justice League when it comes to HBO Max next year?
