Her death was announced by her longtime partner Dan Gilroy. He said in a statement to THR: “My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us. Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley.”
Duvall's career spanned over four decades, marked by her unique presence and exceptional talent. Born on July 7, 1949, in Houston, Texas, Duvall's journey to stardom began when she was discovered by director Robert Altman at a party in 1970.

Duvall’s distinctive look and voice set her apart in Hollywood, but it was her portrayal of Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining (1980) that cemented her legacy.
