Adam Driver To Star in Director Jeff Nichols' Cuban Revolution Film YANKEE COMADANTE
Adam Driver (Star Wars) is set to star in a new film coming from director Jeff Nichols (Mud, Take Shelter, M Midnight Special) titled Yankee Comandante.
The film is based on a New Yorker article written by David Grann which tells the story of “two people who rose to the rank of comandante during the Cuban Revolution. One was Che Guevara. The other was a man from Ohio.” Driver will obviously play the man from Ohio, whose name is William Alexander Morgan.
Morgan was a United States citizen who fought in the Cuban Revolution, “leading a band of rebels that drove the Cuban army from key positions in the central mountains as part of Second National Front of Escambray, thereby helping to pave the way for Fidel Castro's forces to secure victory. Morgan was one of about two dozen U.S. citizens to fight in the revolution and one of only three foreign nationals to hold the rank of comandante in the rebel forces. He turned against Castro after the revolution when Castro began to show Communist leanings, and was one of the leaders of the CIA supplied Escambray rebellion.”
You can read the full New Yorker article here. It’s said to be a story of “love, revolution, and betrayal.” This sounds like a great project for both Driver and Nichols to be a part of.
