Adam Sandler Shares Why He Doesn’t Want to Star in a Superhero Movie
Adam Sandler has had an amazing career as one of Hollywood's most versatile acotrs. From his early days on Saturday Night Live to his silly comedies like Happy Gilmore and 50 First Dates, Sandler has consistently delivered laughs.
However, in recent years, he’s shown he can take on more serious roles starring in films such as Punch Drunk Love, Uncut Gems and his latest Netflix project, Spaceman.
But when it comes to superhero movies, the actor has a hilarious reason for steering clear of the genre.
In an interview with Looper, Sandler talked about the idea of starring in a superhero film. When initially asked if he’d be interested, he enthusiastically replied, “Oh, man, yes!”
But then reality, and the thought of spandex, kicked in. “It’s just due to me wearing anything tight on the body [that’s] going to be awful for everybody.”
Sandler’s response hits home for anyone who cringes at the thought of wearing spandex outfits. Superhero suits may look cool on-screen, but behind the scenes, many actors have shared the challenges of wearing them. Sandler would just rather spare himself (and everyone else) the trouble.
Sandler was once considered for the role of Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy, a part that eventually went to Bradley Cooper. He would’ve avoided spandex in that role, and Sandler’s comedic timing and voice could have definitely worked for Rocket.
Though Sandler doesn’t envision himself as a cape-wearing crimefighter, there’s still potential for him to make his mark in the genre at some point. Maybe a satirical superhero movie in the vein of Kick-Ass or Hancock.
It’s not hard to imagine Sandler bringing his signature comedic style and relatable awkwardness to a parody of the genre.
Would you like to see Sandler eventually jump into the Superhero genre at some point? Is there a Marvel or DC character that you’d like to see him play?
