Adam Sandler Will Play an Astronaut in a New Netflix Drama THE SPACEMAN OF BOHEMIA

Adam Sandler is set to star in a new sci-fi drama being produced by Netflix that will be based on Jaroslav Kalfar’s novel The Spaceman of Bohemia. The film will be helmed by Chernobyl director Johan Renck from a script written by Colby Day.

Sandler plays an astronaut in the story who is “sent to the edge of the galaxy to collect mysterious ancient dust. He soon finds his earthly life falling to pieces and he turns to the only voice who can help him try to put it back together. It just so happens to belong to a creature from the beginning of time lurking in the shadows of his ship.”

I absolutely love this story, and this is a perfect role for Sandler to take on. He’s going to be awesome in this movie, and I’m excited to see him take it on. I can see both his comedic and dramatic acting being perfectly utilized to tell this story.

Reneck had this to say about Sandler’s involvement in a statement:

“As we prepare for our voyage to Chopra, I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the perfect partner in Adam. And now, with the support of the brilliant Netflix family, I am profoundly excited to set off on our impossible journey.”

Channing Tatum is also a producer on the film along with Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan, and Michael Parets. Here’s the description of the story from the book:

An intergalactic odyssey of love, ambition, and self-discovery.

Orphaned as a boy, raised in the Czech countryside by his doting grandparents, Jakub Prochv°zka has risen from small-time scientist to become the country's first astronaut. When a dangerous solo mission to Venus offers him both the chance at heroism he's dreamt of, and a way to atone for his father's sins as a Communist informer, he ventures boldly into the vast unknown. But in so doing, he leaves behind his devoted wife, Lenka, whose love, he realizes too late, he has sacrificed on the altar of his ambitions.

Alone in Deep Space, Jakub discovers a possibly imaginary giant alien spider, who becomes his unlikely companion. Over philosophical conversations about the nature of love, life and death, and the deliciousness of bacon, the pair form an intense and emotional bond. Will it be enough to see Jakub through a clash with secret Russian rivals and return him safely to Earth for a second chance with Lenka?

Rich with warmth and suspense and surprise, Spaceman of Bohemia is an exuberant delight from start to finish. Very seldom has a novel this profound taken readers on a journey of such boundless entertainment and sheer fun.

What do you think about Sandler landing the lead role of this film?
