Adam Savage’s TED Talk “My Love Letter to Cosplay”

Most of you know Adam Savage as one of the hosts of the awesome series Mythbusters. The guy is an insanely talented individual with a fun and imaginative personality. He’s got the skills to build and create some pretty awesome and elaborate props and costumes, some of which you can see here. He even dresses up in his costumes to walk around various geek conventions.

Savage recently did a TED Talk in which he talked about his childhood and how he became the kind of man that he is. It’s the story of his evolution, and it's also his love letter to cosplay. One of the things he said is:

“Cosplay as storytelling is really personal to me. It’s also probably the hobby I’m most embarrassed about. Even more than prop collecting, it’s a weird thing to be driven to do. And yet it’s important.
"We're connecting with something important inside of us. The costumes are how we reveal ourselves to each other."

It’s a great talk and worth watching when you get a chance. The video came with the following description:

Adam Savage makes things and builds experiments, and he uses costumes to add humor, color and clarity to the stories he tells. Tracing his lifelong love of costumes — from a childhood space helmet made of an ice cream tub to a No-Face costume he wore to Comic-Con — Savage explores the world of cosplay and the meaning it creates for its community.

If you're a fan of Adam Savage, this TED Talk will make you love him even more.
