Adam Scott is Haunted in Ireland in NEON’s Creepy HOKUM Teaser Trailer

NEON has released the first teaser trailer for Hokum, a chilling-looking new Irish horror film that will crawl under your skin. The film looks ready to kick off the summer movie season with something dark, eerie, and deeply unsettling.

This marks the latest feature from Irish filmmaker Damian McCarthy, following his creepy breakout films Caveat and Oddity, and the early footage suggests he’s leaning hard into atmosphere and slow burning dread once again.

The story follows horror novelist Ohm Bauman, played by Adam Scott, who travels to a remote part of Ireland to scatter his parents’ ashes. Scott’s character rents a quiet Irish inn for the stay, unaware that the place may be haunted by an ancient and vengeful witch.

As the inn’s staff share unsettling stories about the honeymoon suite, those legends begin to worm their way into Ohm’s thoughts. What starts as a somber personal journey quickly spirals into something far more disturbing.

The teaser trailer is short but nasty. It’s packed with quick flashes of disturbing imagery, ominous quiet, and strange details that feel deliberately off. McCarthy clearly isn’t interested in spelling everything out, instead letting the mood do the heavy lifting. Horror fans who loved the creeping tension of Oddity are going to feel right at home here.

Alongside Scott, the cast includes David Wilmot, Austin Amelio, Florence Ordesh, Peter Coonan, Michael Patric, and Will O'Connell. Scott, who is one quarter Irish, looks perfectly cast as a man slowly losing his grip while surrounded by history, grief, and something far more sinister lurking in the shadows.

Hokum is written and directed by McCarthy and produced by Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Derek Dauchy, Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, and Mairtín de Barra.

If this teaser is any indication, Hokum is shaping up to be a creepy, clever, and freaky descent into folklore driven horror. Don’t be surprised if this one ends up haunting audiences long after the credits roll.

The movie is set to hit theaters on May 1st, 2026.
