Adam West Says He Scared Robin Actor Burt Ward So Badly When Driving the Batmobile That He Had White Knuckles

We’ve had some awesome Batman stories over the years, fully equipped with various Batmobiles, each of them cool in their own way. But it all started with Adam West, who played the Caped Crusader from 1966-1968 in the two season series Batman.

In the show, Batman was accompanied by his sidekick Robin, played by actor Burt Ward, and they had adventures in the classic Batman car, the Batmobile.

In an old interview with Moviefone in 2017, shortly before his passing, West humorously explained that the Batmobile in those days was a little unreliable and wild, and he scared his passengers, mostly consisting of his co-star, Burt Ward:

"It was fun from moment to moment. I was scaring the hell out of people with it, especially Burt Ward, who had white knuckles — but that car, I recently raced in the Batmobile, the new tank-like Batmobile, in a show called 'Jay Leno's Garage.' So we raced, and guess who won? The f***ing old Batmobile."

He went on to say:

"It wasn't easy to drive because it had problems with balance and tracking and brakes and so on. I'll tell you, it was funky and colorful, and the kids -– everybody seems to have loved that Batmobile. So do I."

That series absolutely made an impact on fans, and that wild Batmobile will always go down as a fan-favorite piece of memorabilia. I do wish we could have seen the look on Ward’s face when West scared him the worst while driving, though!
