Adria Arjona Joins the DCU as Maxima in SUPERMAN Sequel MAN OF TOMORROW

Adria Arjona is officially stepping into the role of Maxima in James Gunn’s Superman sequerl, Man of Tomorrow, the upcoming sequel from James Gunn. It’s a big swing for the franchise and a character that could shake things up in a major way.

Arjona has been on fans’ radar for a while, with plenty of people saying she’d make a great Wonder Woman. Even Gunn agreed with that sentiment. Still, it turns out Maxima ended up being the perfect fit for the Andor star, and honestly, it’s not hard to see why.

This is kinda funny because when she was previously rumored to be up for the role of Maxima, Gunn said: “If someone would have run these names by us we would have said it's bullshit.” Apparently it wasn’t bullshit!

Arjona reportedly tested for the part alongside Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten. Maxima, for those who know their DC lore, is an alien queen with a complicated history. She’s been both an adversary and a romantic interest for Superman in the comics, which opens the door for some fun and unpredictable dynamics on screen.

Man of Tomorrow is shaping up to be a packed and ambitious follow-up to Superman. David Corenswet returns as Superman, with Nicholas Hoult back as Lex Luthor. This time, the two are forced into an uneasy alliance to take on Brainiac, a super-intelligent threat played by Lars Eidinger.

The cast around them is stacked with familiar and fresh faces. Rachel Brosnahan returns as Lois Lane, joined by Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.

The superhero roster expands with Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart.

Off-screen, Arjona’s connection to the DCU gets even more interesting. Her boyfriend, Jason Momoa, is also making a major shift within the franchise. After his run as Aquaman, he’s set to take on the role of Lobo in Supergirl, which hits theaters on June 26.

Arjona’s rise in genre entertainment has been fun to watch. A lot of fans first locked in on her performance in Andor, where she brought a grounded intensity to the Star Wars universe.

Since then, she’s built a solid lineup of projects including Hit Man, Splitsville, Father of the Bride, and Blink Twice. Up next, she’ll star opposite Michael B. Jordan in a new take on The Thomas Crown Affair for Amazon MGM Studios.

With production already ramping up in Atlanta and a release date set for July 9, 2027, Man of Tomorrow is moving full steam ahead.

What do you think about Arjona taking on the role of Maxima?
