ADVENTURE TIME: SIDE QUESTS Is Headed to Disney+ and Hulu This Summer

The world of Adventure Time is making a pretty surprising move. For the first time ever, the animated franchise is stepping outside the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella, with the new spinoff series Adventure Time: Side Quests set to premiere on Disney+ and Hulu in the U.S. on June 29.

That’s a big shift for the long-running animated property, especially considering the original series spent its entire run at Cartoon Network, while later projects like Adventure Time: Distant Lands and Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake landed on HBO Max. Now Finn and Jake are packing up for a new streaming home.

Produced by Cartoon Network Studios, Side Quests was first announced during the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival as part of the Warner Bros. Animation lineup, though at the time no streaming platform or network had been attached.

The new series throws viewers back into the Land of Ooo for more weird, hilarious, and magical adventures with Finn and Jake.

According to the official description, the duo will be “partying with cloud people and punching evil in the butt along the way,” which honestly sounds exactly like the kind of chaotic energy fans want from this franchise.

Sasha Knight voices Finn the Human, while John DiMaggio returns as Jake the Dog. The series also brings back several fan-favorite characters including Ice King voiced by Tom Kenny, Princess Bubblegum voiced by Hynden Walch, Marceline voiced by Olivia Olson, and BMO voiced by Niki Yang.

Showrunner and executive producer Nate Cash shared his excitement about returning to the world of Ooo, saying:

“Making Side Quests felt like making the original Adventure Time, which felt like hanging out with art school buddies making professional cartoons,” said showrunner and executive producer, Nate Cash. “That sounds like a big sandwich of feelings, and it was! You’re going to love these NEW adventures with Finn & Jake!”

The Disney+ and Hulu release is also interesting because the two streamers typically keep pretty distinct content identities. Seeing them share a major animated series like this feels like another step toward tighter integration between the platforms.

For Adventure Time fans, though, Finn and Jake are back for more adventures, more absurd comedy, and more bizarre creatures from Ooo. After all these years, the franchise still knows exactly how to pull audiences back into its wonderfully strange universe.
