After a Huge Sequel Opening Weekend Universal Exec Says Things Are Underway to Continue the WICKED Film Franchise

This last weekend, fans headed to the theater in droves to see the conclusion to the Wicked franchise, with the second film, Wicked: For Good.

Despite mixed reviews, the film has already set out to surpass the first film in sales, and that is naturally giving Universal Pictures pause about the franchise stopping at two movies.

Universal's chief marketing officer Michael Moses told Vulture, "Because of Wicked’s success but also the fanship, we have almost a responsibility to figure out how we can continue in this universe. Have we figured it out yet? No. But there are things underway."

For Good is based on the third act of the successful Broadway musical, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande return to star as Elphaba and Glinda, two unlikely best friends who are forced apart after Elphaba defies the Wizard of Oz's regime and is condemned as the Wicked Witch of the West.

The events of the film bring us right into that fateful scene in The Wizard of Oz, where Dorothy drops a house on the Wicked Witch of the East.

There are plenty of characters with interesting stories to explore in the Wicked universe, and many more books written by the original book’s author set in that world. Wicked: For Good is playing in theatres now.
