AHSOKA Season 2 Gets Exciting Update as Dave Filoni Teases Release and Future Plans

The next chapter of Ahsoka is deep in post-prodction, and while fans are eager for a firm release date, Dave Filoni is keeping some of those cards close to the chest. What he is sharing, though, gives us a solid idea of where things stand with Season 2 and how far this story might go.

The Disney+ Star Wars series, led by Rosario Dawson as the fan-favorite Jedi, made a strong impression when it premiered in 2023. Since then, anticipation for Season 2 has only grown, especially as the larger Star Wars universe continues expanding across streaming and film.

Filoni recently caught up with ScreenRant and confirmed that work on the new season is still in full swing, with a major focus on post-production. He said:

“Working on it! It's coming. It's come a long way. Obviously, I'm editing all the episodes at once right now and just deep in visual effects with the team. But I'm really proud of everyone an the work they put in. Lots of things to resolve and figure out, but that's normal.

“I'm excited for people to see it. We didn't really get to go out and premiere, in a way, last time. I think that the team's really excited to be out with the fans with this one and see how it goes.”

So, things are progressing nicely, even if they aren’t quite ready to be unveiled just yet. When asked directly about a release window, Filoni kept things mysterious:

"I'm not saying, but I might know. Everything needs its moment. Right now, this is Maul's moment."

That lines up with what we’ve been seeing across the Star Wars slate. With The Mandalorian and Grogu gearing up for its own spotlight, Lucasfilm isn’t rushing to shift attention away too soon.

Still, there are some breadcrumbs. Production on Season 2 kicked off in the UK in April 2025, and Disney+ has already slotted the show into a “Coming Soon in 2026” lineup. That strongly suggests a summer or fall 2026 premiere isn’t out of reach.

Season 1 picked up after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, following Ahsoka and Sabine Wren, played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo, as they tracked a growing threat to the New Republic.

That threat, of course, came in the form of Grand Admiral Thrawn, brought to life by Lars Mikkelsen, pulling in threads from Star Wars Rebels and weaving them into live-action.

Season 2 is expected to expand on those threads in a big way. Hayden Christensen is confirmed to return as Anakin Skywalker, and we’ll also see Admiral Ackbar enter the mix. On top of that, returning cast members like Ivanna Sakhno, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Eman Esfandi should continue their roles.

Of course, the big question floating around right now is whether Season 2 is the end of the road. Filoni didn’t confirm anything, but he did make it clear that he has a plan:

“You never know. Everything works as planned, and I know where the story goes and where it should tie up. And so, I'm not really worried about that.

“But fan speculation is always fun. It's always fun to hear what people think. But we got a lot going on right now in the present. Like a Jedi, you must keep your mind in the here and now. We've got Maul, and we've got Mando happening, so it's very exciting.”

That response doesn’t scream “final season,” but it does suggest Filoni knows exactly how this story ends, whether it happens in Season 2 or continues beyond.

Right now, the focus across the galaxy far, far away is shifting between projects, including Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord and the next chapter of Mando’s journey. But once those moments pass, it feels like Ahsoka will step back into the spotlight in a big way.

Until then, fans will just have to stay patient. Season 2 is coming, the story is evolving, and Filoni clearly has more in store.
