ALADDIN Sequel is Officially in Development at Disney
With the first live-action Aladdin film raking in more than $1 billion at the box office worldwide, it’s no surprise that Disney would want to cash in on a sequel. According to Variety, the sequel is happening and it’s in early development.
The producers of the film have spent the past six months figuring out the direction they want to take the sequel and they’ve come up with an idea that they are happy with. They’ve even hired John Gatins (Flight, Power Rangers) and Andrea Berloff (The Kitchen, Straight Outta Compton) to write the script.
We don’t know what the story for the film will be, but it will not be an adaptation of the direct-to-video Aladdin sequel. It’s also unknown whether director Guy Ritchie will return to direct it and stars Will Smith, Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott, are not set to return… yet. According to the report, offers won’t be extended to the cast until the script is ready. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will return to produce the sequel.
I actually enjoyed the first movie a lot more than I thought I would. It was a lot of fun and one of the better live-action remakes that Disney has made. Guy Ritchie made an entertaining movie and if he doesn’t come back to direct the sequel, it’ll be interesting to see who Disney decides to bring on.
