Aladdin star Naomi Scott is set to co-star alongside Hamilton star Anthony Ramos in Amblin Partners’ upcoming sci-fi comedy film Distant. Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) was originally set to be in the film, but she ended up dropping out due to a schedule conflict. Scott will replace Brosnahan in the role.

The film tells the story of “an asteroid miner who, after crash-landing on an alien planet, must contend with the challenges of his new surroundings, while making his way across the harsh terrain to the only other survivor – a woman who is trapped in her escape pod.”

This movie sounds like it’ll be a lot of fun. I like the simple concept of the story, and it will be brought to life by Blades of Glory directors Will Speck and Josh Gordon from a script written by Spenser Cohen.

As for Scott joining the movie, she’s a talented upcoming actress who got her big break with the most recent live-action Power Rangers movie. She also starred in that Charlie’s Angels remake that crashed and burned. After that, a film like Distant is definitely a step in the right direction for her career.
