Guy Ritchie's ALADDIN Will Feature Two New Songs

I know very few people genuinely excited for the live-action remake of Aladdin. These remakes have been decent at best in my book, especially since most of the time they’re the exact same movie as the animated classics that I grew up on.

There have been some pleasant additions though, such as the deeper explanation of the curse in Beauty and the Beast. I don’t think these small moments warrant these remakes though. With that being said, we already know some of the changes that will happen in Aladdin.

Two new songs have been written and added. The songs were even written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul who wrote the music for La La Land and The Greatest Showman.

Mena Massoud is playing Aladdin in the film and he told Variety the following about the new music:

We’ve got all the original music in there, plus a couple of new songs. They’re really empowering. I gotta say one is very empowering for women, I think people are going to really, really dig it. The other one is awesome as well. We got the same guys who did ‘La La Land’ and ‘The Greatest Showman,’ we’re in good hands.

I am glad that Jasmine is getting a song, she deserves it. I feel like she’s often overlooked and downplayed in the film. She keeps wanting to do things, but then it just doesn’t happen. Maybe now she’ll have a bigger role. Maybe she’ll even be the one to kill Jafar. I’d go see that.

Aladdin is set to poof into theaters on May 24, 2019.
