One of the things that I enjoyed most about Netflix’s The Kominsky Method was watching Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin performing together as Sandy Kominsky and Norman Newlander. They played off of each other so well, and they were always entertaining together!

Well, I’ve got some unfortunate news. Arkin will not return for the the third season. This show is going to have a big hole in it with Arkin gone. It was reportedly Arkin’s decision not to return.

According to the report, “The decision was made a long time ago, with Arkin indicating he would not continue beyond Season 2.” However, that certainly was not reflected in the Season 2 finale of the series. It’s explained that Arkin’s exit was decided before the industry was upended by the coronavirus pandemic in March.

The departure of Arkin’s character Howard will be addressed in Season 3. In a statement made when the series was picked up for Season 3, creator Chuck Lore explained that this upcoming season would be the final one.

The Kominsky Method has been a true passion project for me and it’s been an incredible experience to see the warm response from both audiences and critics. I’m excited to wrap up the story with this final chapter.”

I wish that Arkin would have stuck around for this final season, but he’s 86 years old, so I totally understand if he doesn’t want to do it.
