Alan Ritchson Cast as Lead in Amazon's JACK REACHER Series
Amazon Studios has found its star for their upcoming series adaptation fo Lee Child’s Jack Reacher. They’ve cast Alan Ritchson (Titans, The Hunger Games) in the role of Reacher, and he definitely has the physicality of the character that Tom Cruise did not.
Alan Ritchson stands at 6” 2’ with a muscular build, and he’s ready to kick ass. The character is described in the books as a 6’5”, 250-pound man with “a six-pack like a cobbled city street, a chest like a suit of NFL armor, biceps like basketballs, and subcutaneous fat like a kleenex tissue.” It makes sense that they’d cast someone like Ritchson.
When previously talking about the series, Child teased, “We’re rebooting and starting over and we’re going to try and find the perfect guy.”
The first season of the series will be based on the first book in the Jack Reacher book series, The Killing Floor. Scorpion creator Nick Santora will write, executive produce, and act as showrunner. Child is also involved with the project. Here’s what Santora previously said about it:
“Lee Child has created an incredible character and world; it will be the goal of every writer, producer, actor, executive and crew member to capture the essence of Mr. Child’s books – and luckily Lee has been there, and will continue to be there, to help guide us along the way in this series. He is the pulse of Reacher.”
The story will follow ex-military policeman Jack Reacher. “He’s just passing through Margrave, Georgia, and in less than an hour, he’s arrested for murder. Not much of a welcome. All Reacher knows is that he didn’t kill anybody. At least not here. Not lately. But he doesn’t stand a chance of convincing anyone. Not in Margrave, Georgia. Not a chance in hell.”
Amazon tends to develop some really well-made shows. I love what they’ve done with the Jack Ryan series, and I’m confident they’ll bring that same level of quality to Jack Reacher.
