Alan Ritchson Set to Star in Amazon MGM Studios’ Untitled Navy SEAL Mike Thornton Movie
Alan Ritchson is keeping the momentum going with his career. As his new movie Motor City makes its North American debut at TIFF following its world premiere in Venice, the Reacher star has lined up another massive project.
He’ll lead Patrick Hughes’ untitled Amazon MGM Studios film centered on Navy SEAL Mike Thornton, a role that sits within Ritchson’s three-picture acting deal with the studio.
This marks a reunion for Ritchson and Hughes, who just wrapped work together on Netflix’s sci-fi adventure War Machine.
The story will spotlight Thornton during the closing days of the Vietnam War. After five men are trapped behind enemy lines in North Vietnam, Thornton leads a desperate fight for survival against 150 soldiers.
In a display of extraordinary courage, he carries a gravely wounded lieutenant and another soldier tied to him while swimming for hours through hostile waters of the South China Sea. That heroic act earned Thornton the Congressional Medal of Honor.
The film is being produced by a stacked team that includes Sylvester Stallone and Balboa Productions, Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman and Alex Young, Ritchson’s AllyCat Entertainment, and Alan Rautbort. The script comes from Mark Semos, Ritchson, and Jason Hall (American Sniper, Thank You For Your Service).
Ritchson is currently filming season four of Reacher, continuing to star and serve as executive producer on Prime Video’s hit series. He also produced and starred in Motor City alongside Shailene Woodley and Ben Foster.
On top of that, he recently finished several high-profile projects including The Runner with Owen Wilson, the Amazon MGM action comedy Playdate with Kevin James, and the holiday family comedy The Man With The Bag opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger. And if that wasn’t enough, he’ll be back for the next installment of Universal’s Fast and Furious franchise.
Ritchson has clearly become one of the busiest and most exciting actors working today, and his upcoming collaboration with Hughes on the Mike Thornton project sounds like it’s going to be another great addition to his career.
