Alan Tudyk Will Bring FIREFLY Cast into His New Series CON MAN
For those of you looking for a Firefly reunion, it looks like its going to happen in Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion's new comedy series Con Man. The series was funded by fans, and has so far brought in over $2.8 million which will get us 12 episodes in the first season.
The series follows two characters named Wray Nerely and Jack Moore, who are played by Tudyk and Fillion. They were actors on a popular sci-fi series called Spectrum that was cancelled too soon, but later gained a cult following. The series follows them as they make the geek convention rounds.
During a Reddit AMA with Tudyk, he revealed that he is bringing the Firefly gang back together for the series in some capacity. Here's what he said:
"Everybody has committed to being in Con Man. I don't want to waste their cameos. So, I'm hoping for a second season to put them all in. Right now, it's just Sean and Gina in the first season. Possibly more. The others will be Where's Waldo? type cameos."
How cool is that! Tudyk and Fillion are set to be the main characters in Con Man, and Gina Torres and Sean Maher have already signed on for roles, so you can expect to see them in the first season for sure. It seems like the others will be around in some background form, but will not have lead roles. Those others include Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Adam Baldwin, Summer Glau, Jewel Staite, and Ron Glass. Their parts could be expanded if we see a second season. That's what Tudyk seems to be hoping for.
Other actors who have signed onto the series include Battlestar Galactica alums Tricia Helfer and Michael Trucco and The Walking Dead’s Emily Kinney.
Con Man is the perfect place for a Firefly reunion to happen, and I hope that Tudyk gets to do everything he wants with the series. You can watch the first teaser clip for the series here. Here's the full breakdown of the show:
Wray Nerely (Alan Tudyk-Me!) was a co-star on Spectrum, a sci-fi series which was canceled -Too Soon- yet became a cult classic. Wray’s good friend, Jack Moore (Nathan Fillion) starred in the series and has gone on to become a major movie star. While Jack enjoys the life of an A-lister, Wray tours the sci-fi circuit as a guest of conventions, comic book stores, and lots of pop culture events. The show will feature all the weird and crazy things that happen to Wray along the way to these events.
The series is a light-hearted take on the personalities, luminaries, and characters in the sci-fi community we are privileged to call ourselves members. Con Man is a way to share some of the surreal occurrences we have had, while telling the story of a guy learning to love and embrace his fans.
I wanted to make a show that featured all of my favorite convention artists and friends together. Not only that, I wanted to celebrate the world where heroes, villains, zombie hunters, and space pirates all overlap. I especially wanted to work with my friend Nathan Fillion again.
