Albert Hughes Is Set to Direct THE FUGITIVE Remake at Warner Bros.
Albert Hughes, the director of The Book of Eli, Alpha, and Menace II Society, is set to direct the remake of The Fugitive, which is set up at Warner Bros. It was also reported that Brian Tucker (Broken City) is writing the script and that Erik Feig will produce the film.
According to the report, “the studio intends on putting a new spin on the 1993 Andrew Davis-directed action classic.” That film starred Harrison Ford as a doctor accused of murdering his wife and he embarks on an intense journey to find the real killer… a one-armed man. Tommy Lee Jones also starred in the movie as the U.S. Marshall who is hunting him down. That was one of my favorite films!
I don’t see the need to tell this story, which is based on the 1963 TV series, again. But, Hollywood can’t and won’t stop remaking films and rehashing old stories. Hughes is a solid director, though, and maybe he’ll bring something new and interesting to his version of the story.
There’s a second Fugitive-inspired project going into development. A short-form version of the story is in the works at the upcoming Quibi streaming service. The project stars Kiefer Sutherland as the hunter and Boyd Holbrook playing the murder suspect. This version of the story centers on “a man accused of blowing up an LA subway station with a bomb, with social media a hotbed of false accusations, but also real-time updates as the suspect tries to prove his innocence.”
What do you think about Albert Hughes directing a remake of The Fugitive?
