Alec Baldwin to Star in NBC's Live Show A FEW GOOD MEN in The Role Jack Nicholson Made Famous

"You can't handle the truth!"

It's a role that was made famous by Jack Nicholson, now NBC has set Alec Baldwin to play Col. Nathan Jessep in the network's latest live for tv project, A Few Good Men. THR reports Baldwin will star in a live staging of Aaron Sorkin's A Few Good Men. The film of which also starred Tom CruiseDemi Moore, and Kevin Bacon.

Until now, NBC has been known for broadcasting live Broadway-style musicals, but this will mark the first time the network does a live production of a Broadway drama.

Sorkin first wrote A Few Good Men at age 26 as a stage play that premiered on Broadway to critical acclaim in 1989. Three years later, he adapted the play as a feature, and that, too, went on to receive heavy attention, including an Oscar nomination for best picture.

Sorkin had this to say about the casting of Baldwin in the role:

"Alec is one of our greatest actors. Having him play this role — live onstage for a television audience — is a dream come true. This will be a brand-new take on Nathan Jessep, and I expect that Alec is going to bust through TV screens and right into living rooms."

If you're not familiar with the film or the plot, here's a brief description:

The famed play takes place in Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 1986. The original centered on newbie military lawyer Lt. Daniel Kaffee, who comes up against the formidable Col. Jessep when he is asked to defend three Marines on trial for murder.
