Alex Garland Offers Insight on The Theme of 28 YEARS LATER Trilogy
After years of trying to continue the story started with 28 Years Later, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are actually getting the opportunity to tell that story and it will be told across three films!
Garland is writing all three movies, Boyle is directing the first film, and The Marvels director Nia DeCosta is in talks to direct the second movie. We don’t know much about the story of the movie, but during an interview with the ReelBlend podcast, Garland offered some insight on the theme of the film.
He said: “It’s to do with the passage of time, and thinking about what effect the passage of time would have. Is it what you would traditionally call a post-apocalyptic state? Or has something else begun to manifest? Time is really at the core of the engine of the film.”
It will be interesting to see what that passage of time and post-apocalyptic state does look like. With Garland and Boyle leading the creative aspect of the film, I have no doubt that whatever they deliver will be a unique and different take on things than we’ve ever seen before.
When previously teasing the third movie, Garland said: "I have got a really cool idea for it, but it's a much bigger movie, and one of the things about 28 Days Later is that it was small and punk and this idea is less small and punk.”
One thing we can be sure of is that these zombie movies are going to tell a dark and grim story. What are you hoping to see from these sequels?
