Alexander Payne Adapting Danish Film BABETTE'S FEAST for the US
Director Alexander Payne (Sideways, The Descendants, Nebraska) has taken on the project of adapting the 1988 Oscar-winning Danish Film, Babette’s Feast. The original film was written and directed by Gabriel Axel, from a story by Karen Blixen. The new script is being adapted by Guy Branum (Chelsea Lately, The Mindy Project).
Deadline provides the following description:
The film will be set in a religious community in small-town Minnesota, where two older, unmarried sisters accept a refugee, who leads them to confront their regrets, over an extraordinary meal.
This sounds like a simple story, but many of Payne’s films sound simple in theory, then turn out to be beautiful stories. I am a big fan of his work, and I love the way he makes a movie so captivating. Plus if the story has won an Oscar before, it must be good writing, so I’m excited to check it out.
Does this sound like a film you might enjoy?
