Alfred Hitchcock's VERTIGO Is Being Remade with Robert Downey Jr. and Writer Steven Knight
Paramount Pictures is set to produce a remake of director Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 psychological thriller, Vertigo. Robert Downey Jr. is producing the film and he’s also most likely going to end up taking on the lead role that was previously played by James Stewart.
The script for the remake will be written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who also recently signed on to write a Star Wars movie for Lucasfilm.
The movie is a favorite among Hitchcock fans, and the story centers on former police detective John "Scottie" Ferguson, who suffers from an intense fear of heights and is hired by an old college friend to follow his wife, Madeleine, who seems to be behaving strangely. As Scottie investigates, he becomes increasingly obsessed with Madeleine.
After Madeleine seemingly commits suicide, John meets Judy, a woman who bears a striking resemblance to Madeleine. He becomes convinced that she is Madeleine and is consumed with his desire to mold Judy into Madeleine, leading to a tragic ending.
With the talents that’s involved with this film project, it will be interesting to see how it turns out. Do you think they can tell this story better than Hitchcock did? I guess we’ll find out!
Downey Jr. hasn't really done much acting-wise since his time playing Iron Man. He’s going to appear in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, but it will be good to see him take on the lead role in a movie again.
