Alicia Silverstone Was Offered Role in '90s Drama Series BEVERLY HILLS 90210 but Had a Good Reason for Saying "No"

Alicia Silverstone is one of those iconic faces of the ‘90s. Having starred in one of the biggest films of the decade, the still-poignant Clueless, as well as three classic Aerosmith music videos- “Cryin’,” ”Amazing,” and ”Crazy,” and several other films, she made a name for herself that has lasted beyond the 90s.

Because she hit stardom in that era, the actress was sought after by one of the biggest shows of the time, Beverly Hills 90210, and though it would have been steady work, she ultimately decided not to take the job.

While TV is a well-respected medium all these years later, it was not as big in the ‘90s, and Silverstone didn’t see it working into her career plan back then.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly back in 1995, Silverstone talked about her reasons for turning down the job, with one being the way the stars of that show were being treated in the media at the time, explaining, "Like, the way Shannen Doherty got famous. She's famous because of all the bad things people read about her, right? I would die if that was me."

She went on to add that she’d also rather not be locked into a role that lasted so long, for fear that it could mean her losing out on something that she’d majorly regret, saying, "there's no reason to get locked into a television show when you might be able to do a movie with somebody like Al Pacino."

She still hasn’t gotten that call to work with Pacino, but she has worked with many other award winners, and she has garnered a Golden Globe nomination herself. Silverstone has remained a working actress, and currently has several projects in the works.
