ALIEN: ROMULUS Director Fede Alvarez Would Love to Make "a Good Old Slasher" Movie
The director behind Evil Dead and Alien: Romulus, Fede Alvarez, has had a good time playing with other people’s IPs, but he is looking to do something new… like a slasher movie.
During a recent interview with Collider, the filmmaker said: "On the horror side I would love to do a good old slasher. I haven’t done that really."
I think Alvarez is a talented filmmaker and storyteller and I’d be curious to see what he would do with the slasher genre. The director is keen to make "a kind of classic slasher," but I think I’d be more interested in seeing him reinvent the genre.
He said: "I wouldn’t go for an IP necessarily, but a part of me that’s sort of like very old school ’80s," said Alvarez. "That I would love to do."
For me, the slasher genre has become pretty stale, there’s nothing new different or unique about the slasher films being made. They’re all the same, but the killer is just wearing a different mask.
I think there are some ideas out there that would inject some much needed originality in the genre, and I’d love to see Alvarez take the genre and do something different with it.
As of right now, Alvarez is currently developing a sequel to Alien: Romulus, which fans are super excited about. He said that they are currently developing a story that will “go into uncharted waters” and "go to places where you don't know anything that's going to happen."
