Alison Brie Teases MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE and Shuts Down Rumors: “I Don’t Think They Know As Much As They Think They Know”
There’s been a lot of talk surrounding Amazon MGM’s upcoming Masters of the Universe movie and what it entails, and Alison Brie is stepping in to clear things up. While fans have been speculating about the tone and direction of the film, Brie wants everyone to pump the brakes on the assumptions.
Brie, who plays the villainous Evil-Lyn, recently spoke with Collider and had this to say when asked about the film supposedly leaning into a more serious tone than previous adaptations:
“Who said it’s leaning a little more serious? I don’t think they know as much as they think they know. That’s all I’m gonna say.”
That’s funny because I haven’t seen or heard anyone talk about the film leaning into a more serious tone. It’s been very clear to me that this movie is going to be more like the cartoon than anything in tone. Now, the movie is still going to be set on Earth, which fans are not happy with.
Masters of the Universe is a new live-action take on the classic Mattel franchise. The story centers on a 10-year-old Prince Adam, who crashes on Earth and is separated from his magical Power Sword. Nearly twenty years later, he finds the sword again and is pulled back to Eternia to take on the evil Skeletor. But before he can become He-Man, he’ll need to unlock the secrets of his past.
Nicholas Galitzine stars as Prince Adam/He-Man, leading a cast stacked with talent. Alongside Brie, the film features Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Malcolm/Fisto, and Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress.
Knowing Travis Knight’s filmmaking style, this movie will try to strike a balance between epic action and campy nostalgia. Stay tuned as we learn more about this highly anticipated reimagining of Masters of the Universe.
