ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL Producer Offers an Update on Sequel and Confirms Talks with Director Robert Rodriguez
Alita: Battle Angel fans would love to see a sequel happen one day. Over the years there’s been a lot of talk of it, but we actually have a recent promising update from producer Jon Landau. The update came from the red carpet at the premiere of Avatar: The Way of Water.
While speaking with Deadline about the sequel, Landau shared that they’ve actually been in talks with director Robert Rodriguez. When asked what other films they will be working on aside from Avatar, he said: "There's a little film called Alita: Battle Angel that we would love to circle back and do a sequel to, and been talking to Robert [Rodriguez] about that and hopefully that comes to fruition."
When asked about when we could actually see an Alita: Battle Angel sequel, Landau said that he wasn’t going to put a time frame on it because he doesn’t want the media to hold it against him. It sounds like the sequel is still in very early talks. But, it’s exciting to know that it’s something that is actively being pursued!
When previously talking about the sequel, Rodriguez said that he and James Cameron are still very much interested in making it. He said: "Jim [Cameron] and I talked about it recently, and we're still very interested. I told him, 'Let me deliver Boba and then let's figure out a pitch.'"
Well, The Book of Boba Fett has been done for a while, so maybe they’re farther along than Landau is making it out to be. Rodriquez also said: “I know other people would love to see another, and I would love to do another one.”
That first film was so good, and I hope that we get to see the story continue for these characters! Are you interested in seeing a sequel for Alita: Battle Angel?
