All of a Sudden Keanu Reeves Casts Doubt on CONSTANTINE 2

This is how fast your luck can change in Hollywood. A few weeks ago it was confirmed by Warner Bros. that Constantine 2 was in the works and that Keanu Reeves would be reprising his role as John Constantine. A lot of fans were worried about the shake-up with James Gunn and Peter Safran’s future plans for DC Studios.

Well, it looks like fans can go back to being worried because in a recent interview with ComicBook, Reeves was asked about the status of the project, and his reply was disappointing. He said:

“I was hoping it would, but we don’t know. Yeah, we’re trying.”

So, that was surprising, and it’s a shame to hear! This is something that he was incredibly excited about doing, and Francis Lawrence returned to direct it with Akiva Goldsman writing the script! Reeves has been constantly trying to get this sequel made and he previously shared that almost every year he would ask the studio to make a sequel until they finally said yes. He explained:

"I don't know if it was unfinished business but it was definitely a role that I loved. And I thought that Francis Lawrence, the director, did such amazing work. I loved playing that character, and I really enjoyed the film. I was like, [in a Oliver Twist voice] 'Can I please have some more?' "I kept asking almost every year. I'd be like, 'Can I please?' and they'd be like, 'No, no!'"

Now there’s a chance that the studio might once again tell him no. Reeves returning for a Constantine sequel is a sure-fire hit! So, it sucks to see Reeves giving this disappointing update.

Goldsman previously told Deadline that he was working on the script and teased that the sequel would “expand on the themes” introduced in the first movie. It was also explained that the movie would continue to explore the barrier between Earth and the “evil creatures” on the other side.

I’m not ready to give up hope on this because I really want Constantine 2 to happen. Hopefully, Reeves and his team are able to push it through!
