ALLY MCBEAL Revival in Early Talks With Star Calista Flockhart Approached to Return
These days, there are so many revivals and reboots that are coming back to series. Saved By the Bell, Punky Brewster, and Frasier have come back, just to name a few, and it looks like there are more in the works. Deadline reports that early talks are happening around the classic ‘90s-’00s series Ally McBeal, which aired for five seasons on Fox.
The show was created by David E. Kelley, who has written tons of hit series including The Practice, Boston Legal, Big Little Lies, and The Undoing, would be expected to return and be involved with a reboot, should it happen. Calista Flockhart, who starred as Ally McBeal, has reportedly been approached in talks around the series, but no official proposals have been made.
“Created by Kelley, the series starred Flockhart as Ally, a lawyer working in the Boston law firm Cage and Fish along with her ex-lover and his wife, and followed Ally’s trials and tribulations through life as she looked for love and fulfillment. The main focus of the series was the romantic and personal lives of the main characters, often using legal proceedings as plot device. The series pushed sexual boundaries in the workplace, where lawyers and secretaries in the firm would routinely date, flirt with, or have a romantic history with each other, something that would be clearly forbidden in the #MeToo era.”
The show was so quirky and funny. It used music as a huge part of the series, with song and dance sequences and guest musical numbers. I would love to see it return. I have been drawn more and more to happy and heartfelt series over the last year, and I think Ally McBeal would be really fun to revisit. Would you tune in?
